Google Pay Consolidation, Kodak Cryptocurrency, Facebook Video Device, Snapchat Discovery Numbers
Google just announced that it’s combining all of its different payment services, including Android Pay and Google Wallet, into one unified service, simply called Google Pay. With the new system, payment information saved in your Google account will be available everywhere you use Google products: in Chrome for web purchases, in YouTube for renewing your subscriptions, in apps on Android for in-app purchases, and at retail outlets with NFC payments.
Facebook is working on its own Amazon Echo Show alternative called Portal, according to financial broadcaster, Cheddar. The device would be the social giant’s first major foray into hardware, and is expected to be formally unveiled in May at the company’s annual developer conference. Portal is designed as a family communications device.
Virtual reality devices are still mostly purchased by a niche market: gamers. Google wants to change that. The Alphabet Inc. unit released a new VR headset with Lenovo Group Ltd. on Tuesday, along with specialized cameras to support the technology.

Kodak is today announcing a partnership with Wenn Digital to create a “photo-centric cryptocurrency” that will “empower photographers and agencies to take greater control in image rights management.” Because why not. It’s 2018. The company’s stock jumped 44 percent on the news and is currently trading at $4.30, up 37.60 on the day.

Google announced today that the G-Suite team is adding new accessibility features to Google Sheets, Slides, and Drawings. Specifically, Google Sheets is getting Braille support and Google Slides and Drawings are getting screen magnifier support. Braille displays can already be used to read and edit texts in Docs, Slides, and Drawings.
As fellow tech giants Amazon, Google, and Apple go after the burgeoning smart device market, Facebook wants in too. Its product, digital outlet Cheddar reports, a voice-enabled video chat device named Portal, will directly compete with Amazon’s Echo product line to enter consumer homes. Only 20% of Snapchat users on average consumed content from a publisher’s Discover edition daily. The Daily Beast found that Discover usage peaked on July 24 with 38 million daily active users – a fraction of its overall user base of 178 million daily active users.
